Meredith was first elected to serve as state representative for House District 20 in Albuquerque in November 2020. During the 2023 legislative session, she was appointed vice-chair of the House Appropriations and Finance Committee (HAFC). In addition to her position on HAFC she serves as a member of the House Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Committee.
During the months between legislative sessions, Meredith serves as a member of the Legislative Finance Committee and the Mortgage Finance Authority Oversight Committee. She is also an advisory member for the Military and Veterans Affairs interim committee and serves as a New Mexico member of the Energy Council.
As a legislator, Meredith’s primary areas of focus include improving child-wellbeing, diversifying New Mexico’s economy, and enhancing public safety.
During the 2022 legislative session, three bills sponsored by Meredith were signed by the governor: a comprehensive crime package (HB68), the creation of the Opportunity Enterprise Fund (HB7), and the establishment of the Venture Capital Investment Fund (HB104).
In the 2023 session, she sponsored several successful pieces of legislation including the general appropriations act (HB2), requiring insurance coverage for biomarker testing (HB73), an increased disbursement from the Early Childhood Trust Fund (HB 191), and prohibiting local bans of EPA-approved substitute refrigerants (HB379).
In addition, she was a co-sponsor of the following bills that were also signed into law: robbery and organized retail crime (HB234), anesthesiology assistants changes (SB35), and timeframes for child custody hearings (SB107).
